The Holy Spirit is my teacher, comforter, revealer, and most of all my friend. John 14:26 says, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you" (ESV). Until recently I did not understand the extreme importance of relying on the Holy Spirit in all circumstances and situations. It has been a season of great transition and great prayer that has led me in many directions. Directions—that I had not anticipated or at the time, desired to go.
Last year, I had a dream and through Holy Spirit’s interpretation and instruction, it brought about significant change in my life. By now I have learned that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22 -23). As a result of the Holy Spirit’s counsel, I resigned from a place of comfort and a place I enjoyed with great abandon. Holy Spirit led me from that place where I felt great significance to a place that was somewhat alien to me.
At times, I felt as though I am no longer seen by the Lord and even forgotten. I begin to think, I must be in the wrong place and place in life. Through this season, begin to cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit and depended on Him more than ever before. I must say the Holy Spirit became a tangible Friend to me. I continued to show up, do what I am told, and in front of me. Suddenly with great surprise, this hard and alien place became one of great treasures and great wonders. In this place the Holy Spirit taught me to praise the Lord instead of complain, I can do more than I think in less time, and to prefer others even more.
These lessons are not ones that I necessarily chased after or even lessons I thought I needed to learn. I am grateful for the Holy Spirit leading me there and being transformed for greater service to God. He showed me how to love, how to care, how to pray for those suffering, and how much I was actually seen by Him. Not only seen but loved by the Father. There are plans that He has for me that I would not be as prepared without this season of yielded learning.
As I yield, the Lord uses me for His glory in greater measure. Acts 10:38 states, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (ESV). Empowered by the Holy Spirit is one of the most exhilarating experiences. Meanwhile, there are testimonies of lives being transformed, healings, and supernatural wonders that took place. The Holy Spirit is my Friend and helps me to read rightly the map of my destiny and walks with me as I follow the directions that leads to the perfect will of God and His presence. Listen He is speaking!
